Report a claim
The claims line is answered 24 hours a day, every day of the year. You do not need your policy number to call.
What happens, in order.
Get safe first
Then shut off what needs shutting off: water, power, gas. Emergencies before everything else.
Photograph before you move it
Including the water line on the wall and the other vehicle’s plate. Do not throw anything away.
Call us
1-800-555-0199, day or night. We open the file with the insurer while you are on the line.
We run the file
An adjuster is assigned, often the same day. We stay copied on everything and translate what happens next.
We argue the settlement
If the number does not hold up, saying so is our job. You do not negotiate on your own.
By kind of claim.
Auto
Keep your proof of insurance to hand. In direct-compensation provinces your own insurer settles the damage even when the collision was not your fault.
Home
Keep receipts for anything you buy to limit the damage. That is a covered expense in nearly every Canadian policy.
Tenant
The building’s claim and yours are two separate files. Open yours the same day, without waiting for the landlord or the corporation.
Travel
Call the insurer before treatment where you can. Almost every policy requires it, and it is what unlocks direct payment to the hospital.
If the settlement does not hold up.
You have recourse, and it is structured. Start with us: a file you are unhappy with is our problem before it is yours.
- Your named broker takes the file back to the adjuster.
- The insurer runs its formal complaints process and must give you a final position letter.
- Home, auto and business go to the General Insurance OmbudService. Life and health go to the OmbudService for Life and Health Insurance.
- In Québec, complaints are routed through the Autorité des marchés financiers.
